Team USA Hockey put on a superb performance against Slovakia in the Olympic hockey semifinals last Friday. The United States controlled the game from start to finish and secured a convincing 6-2 victory to advance to the gold medal game against arch-rivals Canada.
Dylan Larkin scored the opening goal early in the match, giving the Americans quick momentum. Near the end of the first period, Tage Thompson doubled the lead to 2-0.
The true dominance was evident in the second period. Jack Hughes and Jack Eichel scored just 19 seconds apart, significantly widening the lead. This victory brings the United States back to the men's Olympic hockey final for the first time since 2010. That time, they had to settle for the silver medal after a dramatic overtime loss to Canada in Vancouver.
On the other hand, Canada secured its place in the final after coming back from a 2-0 deficit against Finland. With a history of three Olympic gold medals during the NHL era (1998–2014), Canada will be a formidable opponent in this year's gold medal match.
The final between the USA and Canada is predicted to be a classic match full of prestige and emotion, as well as one of the greatest matches in modern Olympic hockey history.
